Although it is thought that the Sacred Heart Memorial hospital invented this diet for rapid weight loss before operations they have since distanced themselves from it and stated that no nutritional hospital took part in its development and it is therefore not recommended at all. Nevertheless, for information purposes we have listed what the original diet consisted of which is a combination of a 7 day diet plan together with the soup receipe.

Sacred Heart Diet Daily Plan
The actual sacred heart memorial hospital diet is a 7 day plan together with limits on fluids in that is was thought only to drink unsweetened fruit juice, water, skimmed milk, tea and coffee. As mentioned above it is not recommended although many people undertake this diet and have said they have lost weight but due to the nature of the plan most of the weight you lose is actually water and once you come off this plan the weight will almost certainly go back on….
Day 1
Eat any and as much fruit as you like except for bananas together with the soup recipe from above.
Day 2
Eat as many vegetables as you like whether they are raw or cooked especially green vegetables which are higher in vitamins together with the soup. This is a vegetable only day so fruits were not allowed. Additionally a jacket potato was allowed.
Day 3
On day 3 you could eat as many vegetables and fruit as you wanted together with the soup (the baked potato wasn’t allowed on day 3) .
Day 4
Day 4 was banana day where you could eat up to 3 bananas with skim milk together with the soup – nothing else was allowed on day 4.
Day 5
On day 5 you were allowed to eat meat for the first time which was just 10 to 20 ounces of beef together with a can of tomatoes, or up to 6 fresh tomatoes on this day together with as much soup as you wanted.
Day 6
On day 6 it was blow out day. Today you could eat as much beef and vegetables as you wanted together with the soup but no fruit and no potato
Day 7
Day 7 was completely different which was to eat brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and vegetables together with the soup.
Because of the nature of the diet in that it has limited carbohyrates most of the weight you lose will be water because carbs keep the water in your body so as soon as you stop the diet you’ll likely gain back what you have lost and additionally you may feel dehydrated and might have bad breath and associated issues associated with dehydration.
