With most checking accounts you’ll also get a visa or mastercard which could be used as a direct debit card into your own account for daily purchases. You’ll probably need a deposit of some kind and comit to transfering in your salary from your job each month and some require you to make debit transactions. - See if you are getting fee free banking – many banks offer this if you deposit a certain amount each month
- If not, see what charges will be taken from you each time you make a withdrawal or a deposit as these can mount up very fast
Opening your online bank account
When it’s time to open just go to the bank’s website and find the “apply now” for online application forms. You’ll probably need your social security number and Driver’s license number for identification purposes under the USA PATRIOT Act and obviously various other identification such as your address. It shouldn’t take long to complete all the questions but you’ll need an income source and they will ask for this. You may have to print off the forms with your signature and mail them in but at least the application phase is online.
