How to Make a Homemade Hamburger
This article shows you exactly how to make a homemade hamburger at home that’s not junk and tastes great.
Making your own hamburgers is not difficult and they are always better than you get from junk fast food restaurants because you know the ingredients you are adding and the actual recipe is dead easy. You can get your children to help you so you don’t need to go down to McDonalds or other restaurant chains and they’ll be ready in minutes.
Burgers at chains are saturated in fat because they generally fry them in fat and the fat soaks into the meat. So the cooking method will greatly reduce your cholesterol intake and meat has a great protein value also. If you are on a high protein diet, just having the burger with salad will keep you on track.
You can make and freeze the burgers for later use. You can defrost them naturally or in the microwave.
Homemade Hamburger Recipe
The recipe is easy and you can get all the ingredients in your local supermarket. The thing that makes the burger taste great is the quality of the meat used.
It’s best to get low fat organic beef if you can afford it and get it at a butchers shop and ask the butcher for his best cuts. Normally sirloin steak is best that is ground. The butcher can do this for you.
Ingredients
- 400g ground sirloin
- Onion chopped
- Black pepper
- Salt
- Worcestershire sauce
- 1 egg beaten
If you want to add cheese or another topping such as bacon then you’ll need those also. Of course that adds to the overall fat content and are not necessarily required.
You may also want to have a salad with your homemade burgers and of course have ketchup or mayo.
Recipe
Mix all the ingredients above in a bowl using your hands and shape them into four burgers of your choosing. You can make them smaller if you like it’s up to you. That’s all there is to it.
Cooking the hamburgers
To keep the recipe as healthy as possible it’s best to either cook on the BBQ or use a skillet or one of those special fat free frying appliances. You can also grill them in your oven grill.
You’ll only need to grill the mixture you’ve made for about 4 or 5 minutes per side. You’ll see how the cooking is progressing yourself.
If you want patties or buns you’ll need to get those ready as you are grilling. You can put them in the toaster or simply grill them as well.
Serve with a salad. Add tomato ketchup as required!
Healthier Burgers
Healthy burgers can be made by choosing low fat beef to begin with and using a wholemeal bun. Not having the cheese will cut down the fat content dramatically.
Of course you can also make chicken or turkey burgers and this meet has hardly any fat content at all.
