• Phixr allows you to upload and edit your photos online without even having to create an account. You can also upload direct from your existing social networking applications such as facebook, flickr, photobucket etc and you can do so much such as basic changes like rotate the image, flip or resize it, crop parts of it that you don’t want, resize it (ie: make it smaller), make it black and white or sepia, colorize the photo based on a group of colors, change the contrast or brightness, add speech bubbles, blur or sharpen, remove red eye, add borders or rounded corners. Everything that an expensive software program such as photoshop can do. Highly recommended.
• Picnik is similar to the above and again you don’t need to have an account although there is a premium option available. There are also plugins for your favorite browser including firefox and internet explorer where you can edit “on the go” whilst you have a photo on your screen. Picnik and phixr are very similar in what they can do and the user interfaces for both are easy to use for any photo you have online, on your hard drive or anywhere really. Highly recommended

• Photoscape is a free download that can undertake some basic changes to your photographs – it’s not advanced as the above online programs but has many features that most people require and may be all you need depending on what you want to achieve.
• Google Picasa - of course Google would have something you can download for free and picasa is their photo editing program. You can do almost anything to your photographs and then share them online via a picasa web album. Basic fixes include cropping, retouching, reducing red eye, color enhancing, adding text and changing contrast or light. You can also add effects to your photos including tinting with colors, changing to black and white or sepia and adding soft focus – in fact there are 12 effects in total.
