How Long did it Take to Build the Eiffel Tower in Paris ?

A question people often ask is how long did it take to build the Eiffel Tower in Paris France?. It’s a great structure and towers above the low lying houses in the capital. We show you the answer.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris is named after its designer Gustave Eiffel and is still today the tallest structure in Paris at 1,063 feet. It was built as a temporary structure as an entrance for the Exposition Universelle a world fair exhibition marking 100 years of the French Revolution. It was completed in 1889 and was then the world’s tallest tower.

Construction

It took 300 workers and 18 thousand individual pieces of iron the make up the structure.

The tower

You can visit the tower and zoom up to the top via two lifts that take you to the first and second levels and then walk the rest of the way to the top viewing platform. In bad weather you can’t see much from the top and if it’s windy you will get a sensation of movement because the tower actually moves slightly.

There are also 2 restaurants on each floor as well as viewing galeries so you can get a good look at the Paris skyline. Of course at the weekends and summer months many people visit the Eiffel Tower and over 200 million people have purchased tickets (with slightly less making the trip all the way to the top!)
